We meet at an agreed upon location, where I exchange $10 for a lumpy brown paper sack. She counts the cash. I check the goods. My purchase? A pair of brand new toddler girl Saucony tennis shoes ($35) my seller had bought from Zulilly.com and didn’t want the hassle of returning.
I found this deal on a Facebook resale group, Better Than Ebay Baby-Memphis. There are others locally, too, like New With Tags, Even Better Than Etsy, and Midtown-Downtown Resale. In fact, I furnished two entire kids bedrooms (with all wood furniture) off the Arlington Furniture Resale page and paid just $590.
How it Works
To find resale groups, simply go to Facebook and type in your city plus kids or mom groups (you’ll see other suggested groups on the right side of the page). You join by being invited by a member or added by an administrator. Once accepted, you can scroll and shop to your wallet’s desire. Each group has its own set of regulations, but most are the same.
To sell an item, post a photo and description. Then name your price and meeting location, and wait for someone to comment “Want” on the photo. From there, you continue the transaction via private message, where negotiating is always acceptable. Set a meeting, make the exchange, and delete the post to make room for others.
To buy, just post “Want” under the item or “Next” if someone has already called dibs. Some use Paypal, but cash is most reliable. Just confirm the item lives up to its’ description before money is exchanged.
