The publics’ questions and curiosity about the coronavirus (COVID-19) grows daily. PBS has presented a collection of programs and resources with timely and relevant information on the spread of the virus, to help.
Content includes a new prime time program, Confronting Coronavirus: A PBS NewsHour Special. This special, from PBS NewsHour, premiered in March and focuses on health precautions for individuals and the public at large, as well as the pandemic's economic impact in both the United States and globally.
PBS will also be re-airing Spillover - Zika, Ebola & Beyond. The documentary shows scientists as they investigate and reveals strategies to prevent devastating outbreaks.
A special FRONTLINE report, “Coronavirus Pandemic” Premieres Tuesday, April 21st. The two-part special investigates the federal response versus Washington State, the outbreak’s U.S. epicenter; and in the Midwest, how the outbreak impacts poor children.
PBS not only provides the public with television programing, but is also providing online content to keep Americans informed. PBS NewsHour Novel Coronavirus Web Portal contains news coverage on the coronavirus.
Also for online content, PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL) is available. SRL has created a new e-learning student journalism unit, “Making Sense of the Coronavirus Through Storytelling and Media Making,” that empowers students to take action by producing news stories from their community.
As many teachers face school closings, PBS has special resources for preK-12 educators to help during this uncertain time. PBS LearningMedia Virus Information & Prevention Collection is a collection of resources to help preK-12 educators teach the nature of viruses (including novel coronavirus), how they are transmitted, and the healthy habits we can all engage in to prevent their spread.
Not only can educators rely on PBS, but families can, too. While kids are at home, PBS has a 24/7 channel with anytime access to educational series. Game Apps on the PBS website can give your child nearly 200 educational games, which can be downloaded for offline play anytime, anywhere.
