Each Spring we celebrate our school and our community with the Maria Montessori School Regatta and Duck Race. The morning of the Regatta kicks off at the school campus (740 Harbor Bend Road, Harbor Town) as canoeists and kayakers – novices and experts alike – race both 1, 2, and 3 mile courses behind the school in the Wolf River Harbor. At the conclusion of the race the festival continues with children’s games, take and make art, grilled food, kayak rides in the pond, and boat rides in the Harbor. The Duck Race and the Wacky Boat Contest dominate the afternoon. In the duck race, families sponsor a duck in a mass rubber duck race on the pond, with $100 going to the sponsor of the winning duck. In an event unlike you have seen before, families’ team up to build Wacky Boats using only cardboard and duct tape. The teams then choose a member to climb in the boat and race it on the pond. In-between all that – children’s games, live music, and good food!
