6:01 Commemoration at National Civil Rights Museum
to
National Civil Rights Museum 450 Mulberry Street, Memphis, Tennessee
The annual 6:01 Commemoration at the National Civil Rights Museum is a community-focused observance of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the anniversary of his death at the Lorraine Motel on April 4, 1968. Event features changing of the wreath on the balcony of Room 306, guest speakers, music selections, a ceremonial wreath laying and a community litany of remembrance.
Throughout the day, the museum will offer educational, hands-on children’s activities to inspire and engage, as we collectively commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our young activist visitors can make-and-take miniature protest signs which will illustrate children’s wishes to create a more peaceful and just world for all people. Another activity will be to create an April 4 Commemorative Wreath, where visitors can make a paper carnation on which they can write a sentiment about Dr. King’s legacy, then add it to our community-built wreath installation.
Free and open to the public. Visit http://www.civilrightsmuseum.org or call 521-9699 for details.
