Memphis Brooks Museum partners with Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group to host this free Día de los Muertos community celebration.
Parade begins in the Tower Courtyard at Overton Square at 11:30 a.m. and makes the way to the plaza at the Brooks Museum. The community celebration features art-making activities, face painting, costumed performers, music and dance performances, informational tables staffed by local Latino organizations, food trucks, and more.
Performers include Danza Azteca Quetzalcoatl de Memphis, Herencia Hispana, and Mariachi Guadalajara, with a special performance by Sonia de los Santos that is sponsored by the Orpheum Theater.
Flickering Lights: Days of the Dead, an educational film about the traditions of Día de los Muertos will be screened continuously in the museum’s Dororthy K. Hohenberg Auditorium. Altars created by area students will be on view in the education gallery, and altars made by local community organizations will be on view on the Brooks Museum’s plaza.
