Memphis Renaissance: Forward Together at Levitt Shell
to
Levitt Shell Overton Park, Memphis, Tennessee
New Ballet Ensemble & School, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and the Levitt Shell present the third in this series, and the 2018 production continues the "Memphis Renaissance" theme - that a diverse community like ours, when it comes together, has a strength and soul that can't be denied.
New Ballet’s dancers perform to the music of ground-breaking African-American composers Florence Price and William Grant Still, classics from Aaron Copland and Manuel de Falla, and Samuel Barber’s moving “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” featuring soprano Aundie Marie Moore. The Memphis Symphony Orchestra adds some Mozart and Gershwin, and the Finale presents a landmark work from a Memphis composer — Isaac Hayes’s “Theme from Shaft” — that will have thousands of audience members grooving in the Levitt Shell grass.
