Don't you love being surprised? By the colleague you didn't realize sings, or by that kid with amazing dance moves?
If you have friends, family members, or children oozing with talent, come audition for NBC's popular hit series America's Got Talent. You could be in the running to win the $1 million grand prize.
Show producers will hold auditions Tuesday, December 11th, at the Memphis Cook Convention Center (225 N. Main Street). Auditions run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. or until all contestants have been seen. Audition slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up online at AGTauditions.com
Dorian, a PR spokesman for the program, says producers usually limit their nationwide auditions to big cities. But this year, they're doing a bus tour through the South, hitting mid-sized cities like Memphis, Nashville, Savannah, and Norfolk.
Performers have 90 seconds to showcase their talent. Singers are usually auditioned in groups of five; larger dance or aerobatic troupes are seen individually. A few auditioners will also be interviewed by show producers, though Dorian says it doesn't always mean the interviews will make the show.
Producers take the videos they collect and package it for the upper-level executives like Simon Cowell to view. They have the final say on contestants who will appear on the 2013-2014 season.
"People often bring talent with them, a friend or family member, and they're usually better than the person auditioning," says Dorian with a laugh. "So it's not just the performer, but who they know." Maybe that's you. Don't miss out!
