CodeCrew, a nonprofit organization that empowers children and adults to be tech innovators through hands-on AI and computer science education, is hosting its 10th annual Hackathon. The app-building competition will take place July 25-27, at the Macon campus of Southwest Tennessee Community College (Fulton Building).
This year’s competition is called AI for My City, and participants will be asked to build solutions using AI technology for good causes, blending AI with their passions to make a positive impact around the world.
The event is open to all current and former CodeCrew students, and others outside the program. Participants will work as a team with up to four members per team. Over 100 participants, ages 10-18, from across the U.S. are expected to compete.
"As we celebrate our 10th annual Hackathon, I'm thrilled to witness how far CodeCrew has come in fostering innovation and civic engagement among our youth,” says Meka Egwuekwe, executive director at CodeCrew. “This year's theme underscores the incredible potential of youth-driven, AI-generated technology to drive positive change in our communities, empowering young minds to harness the power of AI and inspiring the next generation of leaders to tackle real-world challenges with creativity and ingenuity."
Since 2015, CodeCrew has offered its Hackathon. Past topics include social justice, Covid-19, student health, school safety, human trafficking, civic pride, cosmetology, and barbering. CodeCrew Hackathon teams have won first place four out of five years in Tennessee’s Congressional App Challenge (District 9), since 2019.
