It’s almost August. It’s hot and sticky. And you’ve already been to all of the talked about spots like Jerry’s Sno Cones and La Michoacana to cool off. So now what? We’ve got a few lesser known treats for you to try before summer comes to a close.
MEMPOPS - Memphis Made Brewery lot, 768 Cooper, 38104
Memphis’ only farm-to-stick food truck featuring frozen pops can be found Thursday through Sunday in the Memphis Made Brewery parking lot right by the “I Love Memphis” mural. Mempops are made from farm, fresh ingredients and cane sugar. Flavors vary depending on what’s available at the Cooper-Young Farmer’s market, but look for roasted peach, sweet cherry, and avocado lime.
SWEET NOSHINGS - 2113, Madison at Overton Square, 38104
We all know that Sweet Noshings is the go-to place for a sugar craving in Midtown. So look past the candy to the gelato made by Memphis Creamery. Pick your two favorite flavors (chocolate chip cookie dough, salted caramel, Nutella, key lime pie, orange sherbet, blueberry cheesecake, or double chocolate peanut butter) and have them served between two delicious cookies. This is the end-all, be-all of ice cream sandwiches and it’s big enough to share!
LOVE POP SODA SHOP - 506 S. Main, 38103
If you're downtown, pop over to Love Pop Soda Shop. You can enjoy one (or more) of their 200 craft sodas from around the country, put together a six-pack, and even make an ice cream float if you like. The Flower Power Float includes Rainbow sherbet, Lemon-Lime Soda, and Pop Rocks! How fun is that?
RELEVANT ROASTERS - 584 Tillman #1, 38112
If you’ve ever gone down to The Rec Room on a busy day, you’ve probably parked outside of Relevant Roasters and (maybe) wondered what it is. Well, now they have a coffee bar inside where they serve their signature beans. Stop in before 1 p.m. for an Iced Horchata, their signature drink. It’s made with horchata (ground almonds) from La Michoacana.
SKYBOX GRILL & BAR - 2140 Poplar Avenue, Collierville, 38017
Collierville is now home to one of the most decadent desserts in the Mid-South. The Deep Fried Moon Pie dished up at the Skybox Grill and Bar is an absolute must-try. It’s exactly what it sounds like, but it’s also served with salted caramel ice cream. A truly out-of-this-world treat!
COSMIC COCONUT - 5101 Sanderlin Avenue, 38117
Okay, so maybe you prefer a cool nosh that’s also a bit healthy? The Kermit smoothie at Cosmic Coconut is made with fresh greens, citrus, and mango and is perfect summer fuel. They also feature juices, teas, and a light, healthy lunch menu.
If these suggestions can’t lure you away from the air-conditioning, then nothing can!
