The Orpheum Theatre Group has announced plans to host the highly anticipated return of Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) with a free community dance workshop — limited spacing — as well as three performances, February 7-8.
On Sat., February 8, Dance Theatre of Harlem company members will lead a free community dance workshop at the Halloran Centre from 10-11:30 a.m. This workshop is open to all ages and abilities — no prior experience required. Sponsored by New York Life and Ultimate Ballroom Dance Studio, this free workshop will allow participants to explore dance through music and the history and legacy of the world-renowned dance company.
The Dance Theatre of Harlem Company travels nationally and internationally, presenting a vision for ballet in the 21st century, encompassing a professional touring company, a leading studio school, and a national and international education and community outreach program. Each component of DTH carries a solid commitment towards enriching the lives of young people and adults around the world through the arts. Through performances, community engagement, and arts education, the Company carries forward its message of empowerment through the arts for all.
“We are thrilled to not only welcome the stellar artists of DTH to our stage, but also to create an experience for them to engage with our community,” says Jennifer McGrath, vice president of Education, Community Engagement, & Halloran Centre Programming. “This workshop is about connecting the people of Memphis directly with the dancers and legacy of DTH. We look forward to everyone coming out and moving with us!”
The Orpheum Theatre Group enhances communities they serve by utilizing performing arts to entertain, educate, and enlighten while preserving the historic Orpheum Theatre and the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education.
