You know it's fall when the architectural expo of harvest is carefully curated to delight in nature — the Pumpkin House, that is. And its showcased at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens throughout October.
Every fall, the Dixon's horticulture team creates a whimsical Pumpkin House in their gardens, built from more than 1,200 pumpkins and gourds of all shapes, sizes, and color, delighting thousands of families visiting each year — and its free for everyone to explore.
During the exhibition period, the Dixon's garden team diligently maintains the structure, ensuring everyone has the chance to experience the amusement and magic it brings (and capture some cute photo moments).
The Pumpkin House is a rite of fall much as the tulips are in the spring," says Dale Skaggs, director of horticulture at Dixon Gallery and Gardens. "It has become one of our most beloved and anticipated traditions, bringing thousands of visitors to the Dixon gardens each year. The seasons are so important to the natural world, and it is our way to celebrate. It's an activity the whole family can enjoy, and most importantly, it's free for everyone to experience."
This year, the Pumpkin House has a new aspect. Individuals can support this treasured fall activity at the Dixon by becoming Pumpkin Patrons, and as an added perk, receive a complimentary family portrait taken in front of the house.
