The Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services is now accepting applications for its Summer Camp Grant Program — open for nonprofit and non-LEA-based educational and enrichment organizations to receive grants for $12,000. Applications close on March 28, 2024.
The Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services is encouraging summer camp operators to apply for the 2024 Summer Camp Grants Program. This initiative allows more youth to attend high-quality summer camps throughout Shelby County. For the third year, this grant program will provide $12,000 for selected summer camps to cover all camp-related expenses for Shelby County families in need.
"Summer camps are enriching experiences that create lifelong memories,” says Lee Harris, mayor of Shelby County. “However, the high cost can be a barrier for some youth who need summer opportunities. The Summer Camp Grant Program offers Shelby County youth a free summer camp experience. Let's continue to support our community's next generation and invest in their future."
Priority will be given to organizations that demonstrate scholarship recipients — at least 10 children in Shelby County — are from low-income families. Certain qualifications apply to be considered eligible for the grant, including a track record and documentation of at least two years of successful operations in providing summer programming, as well as providing verification of 501(c)3 status.
"Families should have access to summer programs for their children," says Reginald Milton, deputy administrator of Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services. "The Summer Camp Grant Program will offer hundreds of kids a chance to learn new skills, bond with peers, and be in a safe environment. Thanks to Mayor Lee Harris for this innovative program and entrusting its success to the Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services."
