Forrest Spence
If you’re looking for a fun-filled day for the whole family, the 11th Annual Forrest Spence 5k held at the Memphis Botanic Gardens on August 25th promises to be just that. And it’s healthy fun for a cause!
Along with a 5k for all ages (including a stroller division for the babies), there will be a 100-yard dash for kids 8 and under and a 1-Mile Fun Run for kids 12 and under. There will also be activities like games, bounce houses, slides, awards, and door prizes to keep everyone busy, as well as food available for purchase.
Last year, the Annual Forrest Spence 5k had 1,800 participants and raised $130,000 to support the Forrest Spence Fund, a non-profit organization that seeks to meet the non-medical needs of families with critically or chronically ill children in the Mid-South region. Launched in 2007, the Forrest Spence Fund was launched by the parents of Forrest Spence, an infant who lived only 55 days while fighting for his life at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Through this experience, the Spence family learned the countless non-medical needs faced by families going through similar circumstances and dedicated the Fund in memory of their son.
The race on August 25th will begin at 8:00 am and interested participants can visit this link to register.
