Globally, more than 1,000 individuals have completed The Jai Institute for Parenting training program, whose mission is to teach parents how to raise emotionally healthy children without compromising values, limits, and boundaries.
Kindred Place is pleased to share its new parent coaching services after announcing their very own, Clinical Director Patricia Maynard, LPC-MHSP, NCC, has earned her Parenting Coach Certification from The Jai Institute for Parenting. Kindred Place has been known as a hub to nurture strong and healthy relationships, helping Memphians navigate the challenges of parenting and intimate partnerships.
The Jai Institute for Parenting’s vision is a world where children grow into emotionally healthy, confident, and empowered teens and adults. Graduates of The Jai Institute for Parenting provide guidance, education, and accountability to parents, allowing families to create their own empowered parenting model.
Incorporating a coaching approach in our counseling practice is a natural fit,” said Maynard. “The Jai Institute for Parenting emphasizes values that align with ours – including a commitment to communication, connection, and peaceful communities.”
Prior to receiving her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University in 2004, Maynard interned at Kindred Place. She fell in love with the mission and ethics of the counseling center, and later accepted a position as director of visitation services, serving until her promotion to clinical program services director in 2016. In her current role as clinical director, Maynard’s goal is to build strong and safe therapeutic relationships with clients to help them expand on their strengths, explore their vulnerabilities, and help them grow from their challenges. She assists clients with navigating through issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal relationship difficulties.
Maynard’s parent coaching will complement Kindred Place’s individual and family counseling. Coaching and counseling work toward the same goal in multiple ways – coaching empowers parents and can help shape their philosophy moving forward, while counseling is more responsive in nature, looking at the client’s past, as well as mental and emotional outcomes. It’s important to note that parent coaching is not a substitute for therapy.
The Jai Institute for Parenting certification provides tools, knowledge, confidence, and capability for those enrolled in the training program. The certification is grounded in neuroscience, attachment science, childhood development, and coaching skills.
Parent coaching enables parents to get support and guidance on how to best manage any challenges they might face when raising their children. Parents can expect to be provided with resources and strategies to help them develop a positive relationship with their children. This can include advice on how to foster strong communication, positive discipline, and problem solving.
“As industry leaders like Parenting with Dr. Becky gain more traction and become household names, families across the region are seeking the same localized parent coaching tools,” said Maynard. “I look forward to implementing more of this methodology in our clinical practice.”
