Marvin didn't like his freckles — until he realized they were a map to a magical world.
Presented by Babu Press and Joseph Salvalaggio, principal oboe player with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Marvin and the Marvelous Map is one in a series of educational "concert storybooks" created to spark interest in classical music.
"Everyone knows that music has a tremendous effect on brain function and learning," says Salvalaggio on the Babu Press website. "These programs help to teach fundamentals in language, math, and science while providing exposure to the musical language of the great composers."
At the Crosstown Concourse Central Atrium on August 4th, from 11 a.m. to noon, families will have a chance to listen to the story of Marvin and the Marvelous Map, while MSO musicians play Debussy, Saint-Saens, Grieg, and more. There will be a crafting station for children, and parents are invited to relax at French Truck Coffee while kids are taken on musical journey — where things go awry in Marvin's fantastical land and he may be the only one who can lend a hand!
