The Shelby County Mayor’s Office for Education is offering a new 2022 Summer Camp Grants Program — an initiative to allow youth to attend high-quality summer programs in Shelby County. The camp operators can apply for the grant and the selected operators will receive up to $12,000 toward camp expenses for families with demonstrated need.
“Through the Summer Camp Grants Program, participating camps can provide youth in Shelby County with an enriching summer experience at no cost to their families,” said Mayor Lee Harris in a press release. “It is my hope that we all continue to identify strategies to support the youngest members of our community, provide free or low-cost resources to families, and invest in our young people’s futures.”
“The Shelby County Mayor’s Office of Education seeks to provide both learning and fun to youth and their families who may otherwise not be able to engage due to a lack of resources,” said Dr. Cedrick Gray, Shelby County Director of Education, in the press release.
This Summer Camp Grants Program is funded by ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act).
Each qualified camp operator will provide scholarships to families with demonstrated need and will enroll them as per their normal enrollment process. The camp operators should be able to verify their current 501(c)3 status and must have been running successful summer programming for at least two years.
Applications are available now through Friday, May 6, 2022.
Eligible applicants must apply at shelbycountytn.gov/3775/Summer-Camp-Grant-Program.
