The Orpheum Theatre Group presents Keep Marching: A SUFFS Screening Event, in partnership with WKNO, and is inviting the community to the Broadway musical preview ahead of its opening at the Orpheum on July 28. The free screening event will be held on May 8th, 8 p.m., at the Halloran Centre. RSVP is required at orpheum-memphis.com.
Participants can view a special recording of the original Broadway company through the award-winning signature PBS series Great Performances.
Seating is general admission. Doors open at 7 p.m. A pre-show panel discussion about the American suffragist movement kicks off at 7:30 p.m., with Paula Casey from League of Women Voters, Carolyn Michael-Banks from A Tour of Possibilities, moderated by Sally Stover of WKNO.
Created by Tony Award winner Shaina Taub, this musical recorded from Broadway tells the story of the American suffragist movement and the remarkable friendships, heartbreak, and action that brought women together — or, in some cases, tore them apart. The ensemble cast features Taub as Alice Paul, Tony winner Nikki M. James as Ida B. Wells, Tony nominee Jenn Colella as Carrie Chapman Catt, and Grace McLean as President Woodrow Wilson.
SUFFS will make its Memphis premiere at the Orpheum from July 28 – August 2. Tickets are on sale now. To learn more, visit orpheum-memphis.com/events/suffs.
