As the summer break approaches, Memphis schools - and schools across the country - are urgently seeking to secure staff for the 2023-24 school year. In an effort to support recruitment initiatives across the Mid-South, Teach901 is diligently expressing a goal to help fill hundreds of teaching jobs in Memphis.
Right now, every school in our city is struggling to find teachers,” said April Pruett, Teach901 coordinator. “We, at Teach901, are hoping to come alongside our schools - and our city - to help them alleviate this burden, because no one would be where they are today without the help of a teacher.”
Since 2013, the Teach901 campaign driven by Memphis-based nonprofit, City Leadership, has cultivated connections between job seekers and Memphis schools through hiring events and a web-based job board available for all to access up-to-date opportunities and maintain lines of direct communication with school officials.
“As a community, we have to prioritize the recruitment and retention of educators,” said John Carroll, executive director, City Leadership. “They are heroes; should be treated as such, and celebrated by all.”
To extend additional opportunities to Memphis educators, Teach901 is creating hiring events with its first-up being a mixer-style job fair on June 8, at Wiseacre Brewing Company. Educators of all experienced levels are welcome to network with school officials from across the Mid-South who are hiring classroom teachers, administrators, support staff, substitute teachers, and more. Participants will have direct access to school operators and can also have the opportunity to receive real-time feedback from current cohorts on school culture and climate.
Teach901 is a collaborative effort to recruit high-quality teachers who are passionate about making an impact in high-needs schools in Memphis and is also dedicated to retaining teacher talent in Memphis by sharing stories that support the movement, providing professional development opportunities, and hosting events that foster community and show appreciation.
