Shelby Residential and Vocational Services (SRVS) Kids & Families will host its 23rd annual 5K Bunny Run on April 20th. The race will take place at Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. and the race taking place at 9 a.m.
Known as the “Family Answer for Disabilities,” SRVS is recognized as Tennessee’s largest provider of services for people with physical and mental disabilities. The agency supports 1,700 individuals, offering community-based and children’s services as well as providing employment, residential, and family support.
SRVS communications specialist Matt Woo says, “SRVS’ passion is to help people lead meaningful lives in their community, where they can be active participants in what interests them, including volunteer and recreational opportunities, employment, and other activities that bring personal fulfillment, foster independence, and encourage engagement."
Bunny Run participants can register as individuals or as a team. The cost for registration is $15 for children 14 and under, $20 for spirit runners, and $10 for individuals with disabilities. Early registration for individual adults is $25, but will increase to $30 the day of the race. Proceeds from the run will support the work of the SRVS Kids & Families program, providing funding for family therapy, early intervention, and access to preschool for children with developmental delays.
Awards will be given according to 15 separate age groups, with an overall first-place award given in categories: open, master, and grandmaster. Special needs children will take part in their own age group categories.
SRVS encourages the Memphis community to get involved and make a difference. "Our programs are proven to help children with disabilities," says SRVS development manager Ellen Westbrook. "We support 500 children every year, and we need your help to continue our mission."
The event will also include a visit from the Easter Bunny, an Easter egg hunt, games for children, music, and a variety of other activities.
