UnitedHealthcare is teaming with Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry to organize a drive-thru distribution of diapers to mark the National Diaper Need Awareness Week, which runs from September 24th through October 2nd. This distribution effort also aims to bring attention to diaper needs in the U.S.
Families wishing to pick up diapers should visit Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry, W. 3845 Viscount Avenue, Memphis, on Saturday, September 23, from 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Diapers are not covered as a benefit under Medicaid, WIC, SNAP, or other programs. As a result, one in three Tennessee families faces diaper insecurity. With diapers costing almost $100 a month per child, it's a massive burden for a parent or a caregiver making minimum wage. In addition, diapers are essential for children to attend childcare centers or preschools, and families struggling to provide diapers end up missing work.
Sweet Cheek Diaper Ministry is one of Tennessee's two full-service basic needs banks. They have donated more than one million diapers benefitting over 10,000 families since 2014.
