During this difficult time, many organizations and charities are giving a helping hand, and YMCA is no different. They are partnering with the Department of Human Services to help give childcare to essential workers. For no cost, YMCA is giving payment assistance and helping find temporary care locations to support essential workers. To be eligible for the program, parents must work in a job that’s identified as being essential by Governor Bill Lee’s “Safer at Home” order.
More details on which occupations qualify are available online at tn.gov/humanservices/for-families/child-care-services.
YMCA has several temporary/emergency childcare locations in Memphis and West Tennessee. Due to the pandemic, the hours of these locations have been extended, and weekend care will be made available if the need arises.
Essential workers can register for days of care at these locations, through a flexible registration process. Childcare will be offered to match working schedules of essential workers.
According to the YMCA press release, parents will not have to worry because care will be supervised by trained childcare team members for school-age children, beginning at age 5.
“We know that essential workers are putting themselves on the front lines every day to provide services that our community desperately needs during this time,” said Jerry Martin, president and CEO of YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South. “This is just one way the YMCA is able to support families, making sure that essential workers can have peace of mind that their children are being cared for in a safe place.”
