The Center for Children and Parents provides prevention and early intervention services to children and families. Some of the programs include: Healthy Families, a home visitation service for first-time teen mothers that promotes healthy child development and positive parent-child interaction. It also offers links to community resources, and works to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Parent Outreach Program provides home visitation services to new mothers for up to 12 months, offering support, encouragement, and education on parenting skills. Nurse-Family Partnership sends nurses to visit low-income women in their homes during their first pregnancy and throughout the first two years of a child’s life. Their aim is to improve pregnancy outcomes, a child’s health and development, and economic self-sufficiency of the family. The Fatherhood Initiative focuses on developing a community plan to support fathers of young children. Also known as Project Safe Place, Poplar Group Home is an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless teens. Staffed 24 hours a day, the shelter serves boys and girls ages 13 to 17.
