Such is the story behind the Forrest Spence 5K, a fundraiser for Le Bonheur’s Forrest Spence Fund. The 6th annual race takes place Saturday, August 24th, at 8 a.m. at Overton Park.
Brittany and David Spence excitedly awaited the birth of their first son, Forrest, but just hours after his delivery, their baby experienced complications. The family was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital intensive care unit, where they would spend the next several months as doctors and nurses cared for their son.
Ultimately, the fight for his life was lost. But the young couple decided to choose victory over defeat. They honored their son by creating the Forrest Spence Fund. This non-medical fund provides financial assistance to families whose children are being treated at Le Bonheur. The fund has helped many by providing goods, services, even a special room where siblings can play.
Run this 5K, and you, too, will provide hope for other Mid-South families. Now that’s a race worth winning.
