Got a budding scientist in the family? Then here’s your chance to be a part of St. Jude’s Science Scholars of Tomorrow (SSoT) program. The invitation is open to local high school students (ages 16 and up, attending a Shelby County School, public or private) interested in STEM and healthcare fields. Hurry, the application deadline is October 31, 2017.
“We want to encourage students in high school to think about how they can take their current interest in math, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, and turn them into a career in biomedical sciences,” says Melissa Jones, director of Cancer Center Operations at St. Jude. “We also invite teachers to attend our symposium (a teacher endorsement is required for each application). It’s important for science educators to get the opportunity to see science in action and talk to faculty members about what is going on in the lab.”
This symposium-style one day event takes place on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Participants will tour labs, clinics, and core facilities exploring specialized equipment and methods, attend a career panel with scientists and clinicians, and join post-doctoral fellows for lunch learning about their academic and training experiences. To top this all off, they also get to hear scientific talks including one from the CEO of St. Jude.
No cost to participate in this program. Go to Science Scholars of Tomorrow Symposium - St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for more information on how to apply.
