Join us for a lunch and presentation on A Step Ahead Foundation and the $100k scholarship made possible through the partnership of BankTennessee, Girls Inc., and A Step Ahead Foundation.
The luncheon will begin with information on the resources available through A Step Ahead Foundation and include a Q & A specific to the Step Ahead Scholarship.
The scholarship supports both agencies’ commitment to encouraging the educational advancement and leadership development of young women in the greater Memphis community.
"We want young women to live successful lives,” said A Step Ahead Foundation CEO Claudia Haltom. “Getting through school before starting a family, or extending your family, is a major step toward getting ahead in life and achieving that success
The importance of healthy choices and a good education for young girls preparing for the future can’t be overstated, says Girls Incorporated CEO Lisa Moore.
“We’re always asking ourselves, ‘How do we increase our college attainment?’” Moore said. “This scholarship is one way we can make an impact.”
The Step Ahead Scholarship is a post-secondary scholarship program for young women committed to making a positive impact on the Memphis area by encouraging academic success and effective life planning. BankTennessee is managing the program.
Multiple scholarships of at least $2,000 will be awarded from a $100,000 fund. Awards will be based on strength of application and estimated financial need. Each award is a one-time, annual scholarship—but recipients are encouraged to maintain good academic status and reapply each year as needed.
The scholarship is available to any 17 – 30 year old female Shelby County resident with plans to attend an accredited institution of post-secondary education.
Preference will be given to applicants with the expressed intentions of using their education to help the greater Memphis community, and the desire to lower rates of teen and unplanned pregnancy in the greater Memphis area.
