Shelby County Government is recognizing diversity in arts and culture across the community with one mission at the forefront: “all for art, and art for all.” Recently, Shelby County unveiled “Art for All,” a campaign celebrating how art and culture unites all citizens to imagine, create, and collaborate.
Spearheaded by the Shelby County Arts & Culture Nonprofit subcommittee, composed of nearly three dozen arts and culture organizations across the county, “Art for All” will consist of three collaborative community events throughout the spring. The goal of the campaign is to ensure everyone has access to one of the region’s greatest assets – arts and culture.
“Art challenges our thinking, creates new connections, and inspires us to explore,” said Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris. “Shelby County has always been a beacon for arts and culture and it’s important everyone has access to this world. We encourage all our neighbors to discover the tremendous artistry and talent that abounds in our community throughout the spring, summer, and beyond.”
The following events are slated for this year's "Art for All" and are free and open to the public:
Caza de Arte (Art Hunt) Latino Exhibit & Multicultural Festival
Sat., April 22, 11 am - 3 pm | Arkwings in Frayser
A Latino art exhibit and multicultural event featuring an artist market, art exhibits by local Latino artists, art-making stations, bilingual learning space, food trucks, live metalsmithing with the Mobile Memphis Metal Museum (M4), and an art hunt with hundreds of mini-art pieces scattered throughout The Art Yard for attendees to discover and take home. Plus, live performances by Caza Teatro, New Ballet Ensemble, Opera Memphis, and others.
Stax Museum Family Day
Sat., May 13, 1 - 4 pm | Stax Museum of American Soul Music
Celebrating Stax’s 20th Anniversary, the event includes free admission to Stax Museum and exhibits, live performances, food trucks, face painting, balloon art, caricatures, and a Mother's Day crafts art-making station from contributing organizations like Memphis Music Initiative, Playhouse on the Square, and Creative Aging.
Art For All Festival
Sun., June 25, 11 am - 3 pm | Museum of Science & History (MoSH)
Dozens of arts and culture organizations will join together to showcase performances and art-making from across Shelby County through live performances, artist markets, food trucks, and more.
