Baseball loves the number three.
Three outs. Three strikes. Three outfielders. The most famous player in the history of the sport, Babe Ruth, wore the number three.
So when the Memphis Redbirds were planning a fireworks night for the Fourth of July, it’s no surprise that they decided on three fireworks nights. Visit AutoZone Park this Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday (one night, a pair of nights, or yes … all three), and you’ll enjoy the singular spectacle of fireworks above a ballpark.
Here to play the Redbirds this week are the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Friday night is “Dress Like Your Dad BBQ Night,” which speaks for itself. Each night, the Redbirds are offering a specialty ticket that provides an all-you-can-eat buffet of hot dogs, burgers, chips, cookies, and up to two drinks. And “Ice Cream Sundays” are in order for the weekend’s finale, all kids (12 and under) will be greeted with something cold and sweet for an otherwise hot and fiery night of fun.
The Redbirds will host two more series in July. The Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles) visit for a four-game set (July 15-18) and the Gwinnett Stripers (Atlanta Braves) return for six games (July 27-August 1).
So three cheers for fireworks, three cheers for Independence Day, and three cheers for the return of Redbirds baseball to Memphis.
