Memphis’ own Varsity Spirit, along with Guru Studio (“PAW Patrol,” “Ever After High”) and Foundation Media Partners are excited to announce the accelerated development of the brand new animated series, “Spirits of Ridgeway High.”
“Spirits of Ridgeway High” revolves around Melissa Mayfield, a hopeful and optimistic cheerleader who endeavors to rekindle the spirit of her school. She embarks on a journey to guide her last-ranked cheer squad to triumph, but little does she know that music and cheer possess mystical abilities. “This series not only embodies our commitment to the sport of cheerleading but also offers a unique brand extension and entertainment value for viewers of all ages,” says Varsity Spirit President Bill Seely.
The series aligns perfectly with Varsity Spirit’s mission, which has long been to foster school spirit and promote the values of inclusivity, teamwork, and dedication. “Our goal is to try to get kids involved in more school activities, especially cheer, dance, and band,” Seely says. Through a diverse cast of characters, the series demonstrates how individuals from different backgrounds can unite and collaborate to build school spirit by engaging in various spirit programs.
What sets ‘Spirits of Ridgeway High’ apart is the fact that it’s not just about cheerleading; it’s a powerful coming-of-age series that tackles important issues facing kids today,” Seely explains. “We felt that ‘Spirits of Ridgeway High’ was a perfect opportunity to promote the values that really are at the heart of cheerleading – spirit and teamwork.”
Morgan Simianer, a fan-favorite from the popular Netflix documentary series “Cheer,” joins the team to help bring this inspiring message to viewers. Morgan Simianer will not only be starring in the series, but she will also serve as an executive producer and cheer advisor. “I am beyond excited to be a part of this amazing project," said Simianer. “As someone who knows firsthand the power of school spirit, I cannot wait for audiences to see the world we have created. This show is going to be a must-watch for anyone who loves animation, cheerleading, and magic.”

Varsity Spirit is dedicated to fostering school spirit and collaboration through various exciting endeavors. Another remarkable initiative is Game Day Live – an immersive experience that elevates a team’s Game Day to new heights. The Game Day Live performance incorporates four dynamic elements - Band Chant, Situational Sideline, Crowd Leading, and Fight Song - seamlessly blended into a thrilling 3-minute performance by the pep band and cheerleaders, reminiscent of a Friday night football game. “It’s truly remarkable to witness the unification of all school spirit programs under this exhilarating and unforgettable experience,” Seely says. “In the coming years, we plan to reinforce our commitment to school spirit by supporting the health and well-being of the young people who participate in cheerleading, dance, and band. We are excited to continue to find new and engaging ways to showcase the power of school spirit and help young people feel safe, included, and seen. In fact, research shows students with higher levels of school spirit perform better academically, are more civically engaged, and are happier in general than their less-spirited peers.”
