From meeting farmers and taking garden tours to exploring storybooks, the newly opened Bobby Lanier Farm Park in Germantown offers a wide variety of activities guaranteed to engage everyone in your family.
FUN FOR AGES 3 TO 5
If you've got preschoolers, check out Discovery Fridays (through October 26th), at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. You'll meet the farmer, visit farm animals, and take part in drop-in discovery activities that foster learning. There is also Saturday Storybook Walks through October 27th. This self-guided program combines a children’s story with a walk on a designated route around the Farm Park. Staff will be on-hand to provide trail maps and instructions.
FUN FOR AGES 6 TO 12
Looking for an after-school activity for your 6- to 12-year-olds? Young Farmers Thursdays (through October 18) from 4 to 5 p.m. is perfect for helping kids get involved with farm chores, exploration, and old-fashioned games. Programs are taught by farm staff and Future Farmers of America students. The cost is $10/student and pre-registration is required.
FUN FOR ALL
If you're interested in something your entire family can participate, come join in on Sunday Socials (through October 28th), from 1 to 5 p.m. Pack a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of games, bluegrass music, and activities. To finish the month off, head out to Harvest Day Festival at the Farm, on Sunday, October 28th, from noon until 4 p.m. You can celebrate the season with picnic food fresh from the garden, live music, hayrides, pumpkin tosses, scarecrows, horseshoes, kiddie pedal tractor pull competitions, and activities in “The Big Oak Tree Activity Center.”
This 10-acre Farm Park, located in the heart of city park property, serves as an education and demonstration center for sustainable living through agriculture and environmental stewardship. The Farm Park staff recently established a partnership with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare to educate the public on healthy eating of natural and locally grown food. They also collaborate with the Memphis City Schools Nutrition Services Division, Future Farmers of America at Houston and Collierville High Schools, and Grow Memphis through education initiatives.
