To celebrate Tennessee’s Imagination Library, the Books from Birth 10th Anniversary Tour makes a stop at the Collierville Burch Library on Monday, September 15th. First Lady Crissy Haslam will be on-hand from 12:30-1:30 p.m. to celebrate the decade-long partnership between Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation (GBBF) and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (IL) in Tennessee.
Created in 2004, the foundation has helped Parton's Imagination Library serve 95 counties across the state, providing every registered child from birth to age 5 one book a month, regardless of a family’s income. Since its inception, 20 million books have been mailed to children across the state, and 400,000 preschoolers have graduated from the program.
The program's message is simple: Read to your child, early and often.
Research indicates that children who are read to regularly from an early age improve their chances for academic success. GBBF hopes to instill in all children a lifelong love for reading.
Tour managers are enrolling children into the program and recognizing the efforts of volunteers and donors. Families are invited to enjoy a train ride, face painting, Paws for Reading therapy dogs, llama petting, Italian ice compliments of Mama D's, and free giveaways. • Sign up here or go to colliervillelibrary.org or call 457-2600.
