Don't buy new, recycle! If your talent is turning trash into treasure, then celebrate America Recycles Day (November 15) by entering the “Recycle, Upcycle, Repurpose” contest. Collierville Reads 2015 and the Collierville Environmental Commission are co-sponsoring the contest in celebration of Collierville Reads book selections Spare Parts and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.
Draw inspiration from the true stories of unlikely innovators and come up with your own creative ideas. Options include Recycling: building a working robot out of recycled materials, Upcycling: reusing material to make a product work better, or Repurposing: taking an object and turning it into a piece of art.
The contest is open to individuals and teams from ages kindergarten to adult. Prizes are awarded in four categories: Elementary, Middle, High School, and Adult/Family. Submit your application by 5 p.m. on October 19. Finished projects are due November 12.
The entries will be on exhibit (and some offered for sale) at the Morton Museum of Collierville History on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. until noon. The public is invited to view the display and attend the awards ceremony.
