Saturday marks the end of Memphis Public Libraries' Explore Memphis program. The summer-long curriculum is designed to help students get over a dreaded "summer slump," a period between school years when they aren't engaging either academically or educationally. "We want to combat that," MPL children's services coordinator Jamie Griffin told Parent when the program launched this year, "and encourage students to engage with reading in some form through our Explore Memphis program."
And after a couple months of reading and interactive exhibits, the Explore Memphis program wraps up yet another summer as a success. Its impact on the Memphis community even saw the initiative recognized as a 2021 finalist for the Summer Learning National Award by the National Summer Learning Association.
To celebrate its success, MPL is hosting free outdoor and virtual community events Saturday, July 31st. Activities are open to all. Follow the links below for more information about the festivities.
