Want to take your crew to several one-of-a-kind events? Mark your calendar for the 2014 Memphis Airshow (October 18-19) and the 18th Annual Plane Pull & Fall Festival (October 25). Both events take place at the Millington Regional Jetport.
“At this year’s airshow, there’s something for everyone that’s both exciting and fast-paced,” notes John Sumner, executive director of the Memphis Airshow. “We have the honor of hosting U.S. Navy Jet Demonstration Team - Blue Angels. They are back with their most dynamic airshow act.”
Other highlights include the Shockwave Jet Truck, the holder of the world’s record for speed in a big truck (375 mph), and Team AeroDynamix, the largest flying formation team performing on the circuit.
Visitors will also see unusual and experimental aircraft from around the world, including a World War II Vintage B-25 Mitchell Bomber and World War II BT-13 Airplane. Novelty acts include a pilot who lands his airplane on the back of a moving truck, and Otto the talking helicopter. Don't miss the Kids Family Fun Zone, car show, and additional performers throughout the day.

The 18th Annual Shelby Residential and Vocational Services (SRVS) Kids & Families Plane Pull & Fall Festival takes place Saturday, October 25. This event provides a totally different kind of fun down on the ground.
Adult and youth teams of 25 compete to see how fast they can pull a 130,000 lbs. FedEx Boeing 757 aircraft. The team that beats the clock by pulling the plane 12 feet wins.
“Families and kids will be able to cheer from the sidelines as teams compete to prove their ultimate test of strength,” says Dynisha Woods, development coordinator with the SRVS.
The fall festival includes inflatables, face painting, carnival games, fire truck & service vehicle tours, music, food, and door prizes. Preschoolers can ride one of the smaller planes with the assistance of parents.
Woods also encourages people to try the lightest weight pull, where a team can decide on the fewest number of members to pull the plane. She recalls they had a one-man pull once and it was almost like one of those “strong man” competitions. To register a team, contact Dynisha Woods at 869-9284 or email dynisha.brownwoods@srvs.org
