Local storyteller, writer, and actor Elaine Blanchard introduces us to Honey Comb, a new children's book, with a book signing and author discussion at Parkway House on Sunday, December 16th.
Honey Comb, released last month, is a fictionalized account of true story from Blanchard's childhood. "There was a girl, Honey Comb, I disliked at school," she says. "I disliked her because I was jealous of her home and the way she could look 'perfect' all day long."
One day, Honey Comb's dog, Tar, "accidentally brought us together for play," Blanchard says. "That play time changed the way I saw Honey and changed the way I saw myself, too."
Blanchard hopes the story will help children recognize their own jealousy and "to experience the power of connection that happens when we play together."
The signing will be held at Parkway House, 1960 North Parkway, on Sunday, December 16th, from 2 to 4 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., Blanchard and Kaci Bug, the book's illustrator, will talk about their experience working together. Parking is available on the south side of North Parkway, on University Boulevard west of Parkway House.
Books will be available at the event. Paperback copies: $16.95; hard back copies: $25.95. Please bring cash or check if you wish to purchase.
