On the day the Memphis Zoo reopened its doors to visitors, officials there announced the zoo would cancel all summer camps this year.
The news was announced in an email to those who had signed up for Zoo Camp during the summer 2020 season. Officials are offering refunds for enrollment fees and two alternative ways to use the funds.
“The Memphis Zoo and our education department believe that keeping guests, staff, and animals safe is the highest priority at this time,” reads the email from Christina Dembiec, director of education at the zoo “To that end, we have made the tough decision to cancel our summer camps this year.
“Our education team is coming back to work, ready to create a whole new world of programming that will be able to meet current CDC guidelines as well as any state and local orders.”
Dembiec said in addition to refunds, the zoo will offer hold registration fees and apply them to camp programs through the end of 2021. Fees can also be applied to the zoo’s Emergency Support Fund to help cover the daily feeding and care of the more than 4,500 animals that call the zoo home.
For refunds, send an email to educationinfo@memphiszoo.org. Include your registration’s transaction identification numbers, and your child’s name.
