Zoe Thompson
Zoe Thompson, ninth-grader at Olive Branch High School in DeSoto County, MS, has been selected as a Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. She will join other students from across the country for a three-day event on June 21-23, on the campus of University of Massachusetts Lowell, just outside Boston.
The nationally-recognized honors-only program is for high school students who are dedicated to the service of humanity through medicine, either as physicians or in scientific research. Thousands of the country's most gifted high school students will gather together to be guided by some of the greatest minds in medicine who are leading the medical miracles of the 21st century. The purpose of the Congress is to honor, inspire, motivate, and direct the top students in the country and help them stay true to their dreams.
Students are identified to become Delegates by their teachers or school leadership based on their dedication to entering the medical field as physicians or medical scientists, leadership potential, and academic excellence. Zoe’s nomination was signed by Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and the Science Director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, and she will represent Olive Branch High School.
Students will hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science recipients discuss leading medical research; be given advice from Ivy League and top medical school deans on what to expect in medical school; witness stories told by patients who are living medical miracles; be inspired by fellow teen medical science prodigies; and learn about cutting-edge advances and the future in medicine and medical technology.
