Overpark Elementary School of DeSoto County Schools wants its students to know that Mission is Possible. To coincide with the school’s theme and message for the year, “Mission Possible,” OES hosts a NED’s Mindset Mission, a character-building education assembly that encourages the use of a growth mindset.
This pay-it-forward programming is provided to schools throughout the world for free by All for Kids, Inc., a company dedicated to educating children on kindness, doing their best, and learning mindsets.
Stacey Conklin, Ed.S., Overpark Elementary School Counselor, says, “As the only school counselor in our K-5th grade building that has 700 students, I am always looking to find programs that will help educate our students, have a great message, be kid-friendly, and not be too costly.”
The aforementioned assembly, occurring Wednesday, January 16th, at Overpark Elementary School, will educate students on using a growth mindset with a fun 45-minute performance filled with magic and yo-yo tricks, comedy, puppetry, and storytelling. The performance will teach children how to achieve goals and overcome obstacles using a growth mindset, an attitude that believes continued learning and growing will achieve greatness, as opposed to using a fixed mindset, a belief that one is only as smart and as capable as they were born to be.
“We reinforce making good choices daily, encourage growth, and understand that with the power of ‘yet’, almost any mission we set out to achieve is possible,” says Conklin. “The NED program motivates children to try harder to succeed at enhancing themselves and our school climate.”
The school will sell NED-messaged items for five days after the assembly. Sales from these items will benefit other schools hosting NED assemblies in the future. To inquire about hosting an assembly at your school, click here.
