When my son was a baby, we were still in graduate school. You know what that means. No money. So once he outgrew all those delicious outfits we received as shower gifts, it was time to find cute stuff — cheap.
That's when I discovered consignment stores. Some of the ones I loved have moved on, but others, like Summer Kids, have taken their place.
Summer Kids is great for budget-conscious moms. In case you haven't heard, they recently moved into the same plaza as Garden Ridge at Summer/I-240. Now they're in a much roomier, more brightly lit store; better to hold their wide selection of gently-used merchandise, from children's clothing & maternity wear, to baby equipment, kids shoes, diaper bags, even custom monogramming. Here's what I recently found.
I would definitely snap up this InSTEP jogger. I don't love running, but I might try it just to have my kiddo gliding along under this canopy. Perfect for taking baby out on the Greenline. • $49.75
This pretty Graco Pack 'n Play is a combination bassinett/playpen. It even has a changing table (far left) and both can be detached as baby grows. $69.75
Whoo-whoo wouldn't look cute, sprawled out on this playmat by SkipHop. The Treetop Friends mat is bright, colorful, and in perfect condition. • $35
Finally, bring in your gently used clothing and equipment and receive store credit or cash at Summer Kids (5266 Summer Avenue). Open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
