
"The mock election allows students to see firsthand how we, as Tennesseans, select our elected officials," said Secretary of State Tre Hargett in a press release. "By participating, I hope students will feel prepared to vote and be inspired to be civically engaged adults."
All Tennessee students, including public, private, or home school associations, in pre-k through 12th grade are invited to participate in the Secretary of State's 2022 Tennessee Student Mock Election. The mock election is designed to teach students how to make their voice heard and how the elected officials are selected. The 2022 Tennessee Student Mock Election is for the gubernatorial race between Republican Incumbent Bill Lee and Democrat Nominee Jason Brantley Martin.
Schools can register for the 2022 Tennessee Student Mock Election at https://sos.tn.gov/civics/guides/tennessee-student-mock-election. The results of the mock election can be reported starting Oct. 19. All the mock election results must be reported by Nov. 1, 2022. Participating schools will receive instructions on how to report the mock election results. Also the participating schools can download printable mock ballots as well as “I Voted Stickers”.
The Tennessee Student Mock Election was launched by the Secretary of State’s office during the 2016 presidential election. More than 37,000 students from 262 participating schools voted during the mock election held during the 2020 presidential election.
To aid schools with their civic engagement curriculum and citizenship, the Secretary of State's office also offers free lesson plans and resources that can be found at sos.tn.gov/civics/lessonplans.
