Unless you’ve been living under a rock (and we certainly hope you haven’t), then you know about the free concert series at the Levitt Shell amphitheater in Overton Park. The 2011 season starts kicks off this month with an exciting roster of performers. What’s best is that kids’ night also returns. But this year, you’ll need to hold Tuesdays open. Children’s music takes place Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and evenings starting at 6 p.m., when Michelle Truelove gets the party started with games. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
Tuesday morning concerts are designed to accommodate the summer camp crowd, but are open to all, and dovetail nicely with free day at the Zoo (2 p.m. until closing with a Tennessee ID). Another fun activity for moms and dads is the rock music film series on Friday nights, starting July 1st. Included will be rock documentaries featuring the Rolling Stones, Beatles, U2, and Spinal Tap. The Shell celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, so check their ad for a full listing of events.
Here’s the line up for the kids’ concerts: May 24: Verve Pipe May 31: Jack and the Zinghoppers June 7: Bob Dorough June 14: Trout Fishing in America June 21: New Ballet Ensemble
