History:
The All Days Are Happy Days summer camp is a unique five day educational and recreational experience for children between the ages of six and eleven who have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) In 2002, a team of BCDD professionals led by Dr. David Kube, a neuro developmental pediatrician and ADHD expert, developed the camp in response to a community need for a summer program for children with ADHD.
Curriculum:
The camp’s professional staff offers a curriculum which focuses on understanding ADHD as well as providing techniques to manage ADHD type behaviors. The curriculum is Stop, Talk, Assess, React (S.T.A. R.) a program which incorporates talking to yourself, thinking before you act and finally reacting responsibly. The All Days are Happy Days summer camp unites children with ADHD from economically disadvantaged areas and children from more affluent communities together to engage in this fun experience. Examples of the outcomes projected for campers are:
Campers l identify positive coping strategies applicable to home and school
Campers verbalize their understanding of ADHD
Campers use group activities with peers, which encourage team building, social interaction, and enhanced communication
Campers share personal interests with others and develop long-term friendships
Service and Parent Comments:
Since its inception in 2002, the camp has served over 450 children. Customer satisfaction surveys receive over 95% positive responses from parents. A few of those comments are listed below:
My son loves the camp. We just wish it was longer
Wonderful resource! There are so few things my son can participate in. The only other activity we’ve been able to find is therapeutic Tae Kwon Do
My granddaughter has loved this camp; the camp has made a big difference in her behavior. Her first comment about the camp “I want to come back next year. Thank you for having this wonderful camp”
It is our third year and she talks about it all year
As the only camp of its kind in the region, the All Days are Happy Days summer camp continues to expand and address the needs of the community. The camp is funded by application fees, donations and support from private corporations.
